Spotswood B played Altona in the final, at the Newport ground. Spotswood, winning the toss, kicked with
the breeze. The game opened up at a fast rate. Both teams attacked their goals, but good defence on both
sides kept the scores at a low level. At the first change Spotswood were 1-5 to 2 pts. The second quarter
opened with Spotswood in attack again, and with the rovers and rucks playing excellently they dominated
the play. Spotswood rattled on goals to lead 6-6 to 2-7 at half-time. The third quarter opened up with Altona
in attack, but the defence of Spotswood was the feature of the game, and they were outplaying the opposing side’s forwards 8-9 to 3-11. With 28 pts lead in this quarter Spotswood had a good advantage, but Altona came on and with brilliant football outplayed Spotswood, but Spotswood were the steadier in the final stages, and the game finished with the scores: Spotswood, 9-10, Altona, 7-15. Goal-kickers: Collins 4, Orr 2, Stewart 2, and Machin. Best players: King, Howard, Eisenberg, Stewart, Machin, McKerracher and Collins.
Tomorrow Spotswood play Sunshine District in the grand final at Yarraville oval.
